It's been a year since I' ve been back to Honolulu. This time it's to play in a tennis tournament and spend time with Mom to celebrate Mother's day.
I got in on Wednesday and immediately met up with a friend for lunch to catch up with our lives and drama. Soon after I later checked in to the hotel and from there dashed over to Mom's to have dinner and do an overnight stay to have breakfast with Mom and catch up on her well being. She is good to go, she's still active and enjoying life with my step father and so far things are in order.
Going home is always nostalgic. When I spent time at my Mom's I looked over my Mom's photo shelf along with the awards the trophies all the siblings received. There was one I saw of my first tennis tournament win in doubles back in 1980! Can you believe it? 30 years ago, I participated in a 16 and under division and we came out as winners! My friend who I partnered with ironically is a friend I've reignited in seeing as a fellow tennis player in the ATO tournament I'm in this month.
It's great to come back in a more relaxed setting from all the years I've been coming up. Whether it's for a reunion, family event, funeral or just for playing tennis. I seem to embrace each visit as I get older to really appreciate the calmness in my view or outlook coming home.
Next visit will be a more R and R as opposed to an event to tend to. This time it will be a visit to Kauai again and I hope I get a chance to sleep in more and take in the beauty of the island's landscape. More to follow....
