Coming home for Mother's day is always a treat. More importantly, you can't take away time. It's been awhile since I've been home to visit and spend time with my mom. I'm doing it because, one she is getting older, second, I need to make time to physically be there and be engaged in her life. Nothing replaces visiting her over a simple weekend phone call. This time, it's special.
I enjoyed seeing her in her own surrounding and catching up with her on what's going on and what she's been up to. Also, it helps to see how her health is holding up.
There is no better time to see her cooking a dish in face time. When I try to make the same exact dish, it never comes out the way she prepares it. During my visit, I'm excited to take her out for lunch; give her a break from cooking and also gives her a chance to take her out of her normal routine. I see the joy in her eyes when I make that suggestion.
Finally, I pay special attention to her health. Is she taking her prescriptions? Is she taking time to exercise a bit, i.e. walking, somewhat vigorous chores? Is she looking healthy? Also, is she taking time to visit friends and other family members? I want to help her be sure she is reconnected.
This trip has certainly been more than worthwhile, we all have one mom, we should be sure to honor her and let her know we appreciate all of her sacrifices and love. Enough said.
